Just how long did it take to sell out the U.S. women's national team soccer match against Japan in June? According to Fox Soccer,
Fox Soccer's Ryan Rosenblatt said all 18,000 tickets for the June 2 match at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce, Colorado (a Denver suburb and home to the MLS Colorado Rapids) were sold out in 10 minutes.
An official with U.S. Soccer told espnW that public tickets went on sale at noon ET Thursday after the so-called "private sale," which offers tickets to supporters, club members and the like. The public sale seats sold out "very quickly," but the official added that standing-room-only tickets remained Friday morning. Those sold out before noon Friday.
Many chimed in on Twitter to say they couldn't get tickets minutes
after they went on sale, prompting the Colorado Rush Soccer Club -- and
plenty of other fans -- to call for a larger venue.
Since hoisting the Women's World Cup in Canada in July, the USWNT has
averaged 20,927 fans in 19 matches on U.S. soil, most of them
friendlies with nothing at stake (five matches were in the CONCACAF
Olympic qualifying tournament).
Sunday's friendly against Colombia (2 ET on ESPN) at 18,500-seat Talen Energy Stadium in suburban Philadelphia also is a sellout.
The Japan match in June -- a rematch of the summer's Women's World Cup final -- currently is the last one on the USWNT schedule before the Olympics in Rio. It's probable they'll add a couple of friendlies between now and Rio, but details haven't been announced.
A word to the wise: If the team does end up coming to a neighborhood near you for a little friendly competition before they head off to search for gold in Brazil, get your tickets early.
